Back in 1989, two young architecture enthusiasts, Gustavo Rodríguez and Pablo Liev, met for the first time on a squash court, brought by their mutual mentor, Carlos García Manso. It was between matches that the idea of founding the architecture studio was born, which became a reality in 1992, leaded by Pablo and Gustavo, with Carlos joining the project soon after.
Just a year later, the first opportunity arose: Igor Barbovich, former director of the Alcaidesa real estate developer, commissioned a residential complex at La Alcaidesa, the project that would lay the foundation for the future growth and success of the studio. In 1996, Igor Barbovich, reached out again, this time on behalf of Taylor Woodrow (now Taylor Wimpey). He sought the studio’s expertise to assess a plot of land, which ultimately led to the purchase of the Los Arqueros estate. This project, resulting in the development of over 1,200 homes, marked the beginning of many successful residential projects, made possible through a 25-year collaboration with the Taylor Wimpey team.
This long-term partnership paved the way for our first hotel project in 2002—the Aldiana Alcaidesa Hotel. Later on, Engineers Assessors, the project managers we collaborated with on this very project, recommended us for the design of our first hotel for the El Fuerte Group in El Rompido, Huelva.
The list of hotels continued to grow, including Amare Marbella and Ibiza, Daia Conil, and Hotel Fuerte Marbella. Over time, we developed a strong relationship with El Fuerte Group, which led to our first international hotel project in Jamaica. This, in turn, attracted the interest of several prestigious hotel brands such as Blue Diamond, AM Resorts, and H10.
Since then, our projects have expanded across Spain, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Mexico. We have helped bring to life 15 hotels, over 300 residential developments, 5 urban planning projects, and 20 private villas. However, our greatest achievement remains the lasting and rewarding relationships we have built with our clients, thanks to the talent and commitment of all those who have been part of the Liev Rodriguez studio.
We believe that the essence of architecture lies in its ontological foundation, that is to say, its raison d’être: “the continuous endeavour of man for inhabiting space and time”.
In addition to being an art form, Architecture is function and technique, but above all, it’s culture. That is the reason why, in every design, we aim to capture the unique and meaningful aspects of each place, inspired by its cultural and sociological context.
We understand our working process as a dialogue between client, the studio, collaborators, and the space-time context in which each project unfolds.
One of our most basic principles is to listen without preconceptions to collaboratively identify the challenges and how to address them.
We treat each commission as a challenge for improvement, where the process is as important as the outcome.
For this reason, we present ourselves as a tool for investors and developers, offering not only architectural rigor, design, and development, but also support and facilitation throughout all phases of the project.
